Randomization & Rotation

What Is It?

Randomization and Rotation refer to the order in which the answer codes are presented in a question. By default, all code lists are displayed in sequential order according to their answer code number. To avoid potential response bias due to an order effect, randomization or rotation may be used.

How Do They Differ?

Randomization

"Shuffles" the answer codes so that the presentation of answer codes is in a different, non-sequential order for each survey respondent. Randomization

Rotation

Answer codes are presented in sequential order, however the start point is different for each respondent. Rotation
